We started Tallahassee Tree Pros for a pretty simple reason: too many folks around here couldn't get a tree company to call them back. You'd have a dead oak hanging over the kids' swing set, you'd leave three voicemails, and you'd hear nothing. We figured we could do better than that — show up, do honest work, clean up after ourselves, and treat people the way we'd want to be treated. Turns out that's a decent way to run a business.
These days we work all over Tallahassee and the Big Bend — Leon County, Wakulla, Gadsden, Jefferson, and the little towns in between. Killearn, Myers Park, Betton Hills, Southwood, Crawfordville, Quincy, Monticello, Havana. There's a real difference between cutting trees and knowing trees. Tallahassee sits in a sweet spot of huge live oaks, fast-growing water oaks, loblolly and longleaf pines, and the occasional stubborn palm or pecan. Each one comes down differently. A live oak spreads wide and heavy, so you've got to read where the weight wants to fall. The pines shoot up tall and snap in high wind — which, around here, happens more than we'd like.
That local knowledge isn't something you pick up from a manual. It comes from years of doing this work in our own backyard, through more than a few hurricane seasons. When a big storm rolls up from the Gulf, we already know which neighborhoods are going to get hammered and which trees are most likely to give out. That's the kind of thing that keeps a crew safe and gets your yard cleared fast.
Tree work is dangerous — there's no soft way to say it. A grown live oak weighs more than your house, and getting it down in one piece, in a tight yard, next to power lines, is not a weekend project. That's why we carry full liability insurance and workers' comp. If something goes sideways, that's on us, not on you. A lot of cheaper "guys with a chainsaw" skip the insurance, and homeowners only find out the hard way when a limb goes through a roof and nobody's covered.
We're also just going to be straight with you. If a tree's healthy and doesn't need to come down, we'll tell you. If trimming will solve the problem cheaper than removal, we'll point that out. We've turned down plenty of work by being honest, and somehow we keep staying busy. Funny how that goes.
